Leopold Stokowski was an orchestral conductor, well known for his freehand performing style that spurned the traditional baton. Stokowski performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the NBC Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony of the Air. He was also the founder of the New York City Symphony and The American Symphony Orchestra. He conducted the music for and appeared in Disney's Fantasia.
